History

The business was started in the early 80's by John and Robbie Ballantyne on Middle Street in historic downtown New Bern. When Mr. Ballantyne retired, Mary Kay bought the business from him and Marianne continued to work with her. In early 2009, She sold the business to Art & Materials and we moved in at 219 Middle St. and combined forces with the art store as Bear Hands Art & Framing. In July of 2013 Mary Kay and Marianne became co-owners when we bought the business back and restored the name of Ballantyne Framing & Art. In early 2017 we began the process of relaunching our gallery area with a group of artists including Donna Nyzio and Mike Basher of Beaufort, and Ed Macomber and Shannon Semple of New Bern.

Specialties

We are a full service custom framing business owned and operated by Mary Kay Bills and Marianne Ruiz. We each have over 20 years experience in custom frame design and craftsmanship. All work is done here by the two of us from design through cutting and building the frames. We also have a gallery area featuring several local artists' work in a variety of media.
