American Society-Papyrologists
The American Society of Papyrologists (ASP) is an international scholarly community founded in 1961 that promotes the exchange of ideas and collaboration among its members in the field of ancient papyrological texts. The ASP is committed to responsible and ethical scholarship, inclusiveness, and mutual respect, and provides a welcoming environment for all those interested in its activities. The society supports research, teaching, and international cooperation in papyrology, and publishes The Bulletin of the American Society of Papyrologists (BASP) and three book series. It also organizes annual panel sessions at major conferences, sponsors summer institutes for training scholars, and facilitates a triennial papyrological workshop.
The ASP holds its Annual Meeting in conjunction with the Joint Annual Meeting of the Society for Classical Studies and the Archaeological Institute of America. The society welcomes paper submissions from all interested parties, although membership in the ASP is strongly encouraged. The ASP also participates in the Society of Biblical Literature panel on Papyrology and Early Christian Backgrounds. Additionally, the society organizes summer institutes in papyrology and participates in the International Congress of Papyrology. The ASP has standing committees, including the Ethics Committee, and is dedicated to the study and preservation of ancient papyri.
