American Legion
The American Legion Department of North Carolina sponsors Tar Heel Boys' State, an intensive workshop aimed at educating rising high school seniors about state government and politics. Annually, around 500 participants engage in various activities, including classroom instruction and role-playing, to foster civic leadership, increase awareness of democratic principles, and cultivate pride in American citizenship.
As part of this enriching program hosted at Catawba College, delegates join one of two imaginary political parties and immerse themselves in the political process through functions such as bill development, elections, and legislative responsibilities. The ultimate goal of Tar Heel Boys' State is to create informed and loyal citizens committed to preserving justice, freedom, and democracy for future generations.
