I remember, as a seventh grader, falling in love with how genius the human body was. I knew then I wanted to work in healthcare. \n My younger brother was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 9 years old. One month later, my family was in a car accident that led to all of us being hospitalized. These personal experiences led me to choose a career in pediatric intensive care nursing. I wanted to be at the bedside with the patient and their family. Six years after our hospital stay, I applied to pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) school. \n My experience as a pediatric intensive care nurse has taught me that pediatric healthcare must be a unified effort that includes participation by the patient and their parent or guardian. Each of us in the field must do our part to ensure that every child receives optimal care. I believe bringing my personal experiences to my role as a pediatric nurse practitioner benefits my patients as well as my fellow healthcare providers. \n I am married with a young son and a dog. We love traveling, bowling, exploring local parks and spending time with family.

Medicine allows me to help others while fulfilling my interest in teaching. I always loved science in school and was drawn to a career in medicine for the opportunity to help others. \n Working in pediatrics was my goal before even starting medical school. I fell in love with endocrinology early in medical school, and that interest was confirmed during my residency. I was fortunate to be trained by leaders of the field during fellowship. Every day, I continue to learn more about this intriguing, evolving field. \n I am Novant Health's medical director for pediatric endocrinology in Charlotte. Our team is made up of physicians, nurses and nurse practitioners, diabetes educators and dietitians working together to provide the best multidisciplinary care for our patients. \n In addition, I served on the board of directors of the Florida Camp for Children and Youth with Diabetes for a decade and was medical director of the sports camp from 2009 to 2014. \n I am a native of Jacksonville, Florida and completed both my residency and fellowship at the University of Florida where I met my wife. After completing fellowship, I stayed at the University of Florida as a faculty member of the pediatric endocrinology team from 2009 to 2022. \n Our family moved to Charlotte in 2022, and my wife and I both joined Novant Health as providers. \n We enjoy so much of what Charlotte has to offer, including pro sports teams, concerts and local entertainment. We also enjoy traveling near and far.
