The Burke County Literacy Council is a non-profit organization formed in 1988. Our mission is to teach adults and their families to read and/or to improve their literacy skills and to instill in all those served a commitment to life-long learning.

The Exploring Joara Foundation, founded in 2008, invites individuals of all ages to participate in uncovering the nation's past through engaging hands-on learning opportunities. From the discovery of the Spanish Fort San Juan to the building of six forts by Spaniard Juan Pardo, EJF is dedicated to changing history books and sharing important historical narratives. With a mission to educate and engage the public in Native American and early colonial history, EJF has welcomed over 27,000 visitors and school children since 2009. Through public programs at archaeological sites and in classrooms across western North Carolina, the foundation continues to invite everyone to be part of the exploration of our diverse cultural heritage.Generated from the website
