The Neurological Surgery Department of the University of Rochester Medical Center was established in 1926. It offers neurosurgical care services for more than 1,000 adult and pediatric patients every year. Its Brain Tumor Center provides diagnosis and treatment services for brain tumors. The department also maintains a stroke neurosurgery center that offers treatment options for carotid arteries, transient ischemic attack, arteriovenous malformations, stroke and vascular brain lesions, and cerebrovascular and endovascular disorders. The Neurological Surgery Department additionally provides surgical treatment of intractable epilepsy, cancer pain, morphine pumps and craniofacial disorders. The department is located in Rochester, N.Y. Founded in 1850, the University of Rochester Medical Center is one of the leading academic medical centers in the United States.
