United Handymen

History

As members of United Handymen, we are at once both workers and owners. Tired of abusive treatment and poor pay, we learned of the growing movement of worker cooperatives in which workers are valued for their labor and respected for their ideas. We came together with a dream of owning our own home improvement business, and with training and assistance from the Center for Family Life in Sunset Park, we launched the United Handymen cooperative in October 2015. Now our dream is a reality and we can perform repair services directly for our customers. We are proud to be a part of this cooperative because we recognize the sacrifices we have made to be here. We aim to better ourselves as we grow, strengthen and share the knowledge and skills of each one of our members. We are all owners, and we are here to support one another.
