United Federation of Teachers

The United Federation of Teachers, established in 1960, is an organization that represents the educational community. Located in Bronx, N.Y., the organization has more than 130,000 members, including teachers, classroom paraprofessionals, school secretaries, attendance teachers, guidance counselors, psychologists and social workers. It also provides services to education evaluators, nurses, laboratory technicians, adult education teachers and retirees. It deals with rights of educational sector employees that include salaries, working conditions and benefits. In addition, the organization is affiliated with local colleges and universities and offers workshops and graduate courses to its members. It also provides plans to its members, including health care and counseling. Headquartered in New York City, the United Federation of Teachers publishes a monthly, New York Teacher, that focuses on latest news and events in the educational sector.
