The Thomas Halsey Homestead
The Thomas Halsey Homestead, located in Southampton, New York, is a rare example of a first-period house built in 1660, making it one of the oldest English-style houses in the state. The homestead is filled with 17th and 18th-century furnishings, including notable pieces like a high chest circa 1700 by local cabinetmaker Nathaniel Dominy.
This historic site features an early wide fireplace in the kitchen, surrounded by traditional cooking tools, and a Colonial revival-style garden that replicates an 18th-century herb garden, complete with a perennial border and an apple orchard. The property has undergone restorations, with the first supervised by Henry Francis du Pont of the Winterthur Museum in 1959.
