Unfortunately, employers often care about their own profits more than their employees. An employer's human resources department has a duty to represent the employer, not you. Too often, employees are viewed as just another resource to be efficiently used. As legal counsel, I help my clients level the playing field. There is a long list of city, state, and federal laws that protect the workplace rights of individuals. Unfortunately, these rights are too often violated. Our governmental agencies do not proactively enforce our employment laws; our laws require the employee to protect their own legal rights.
