History

We began as an advanced study class at the Upright Citizens Brigade in 2011. We continued working and performing together, and officially established our company in 2012 as we began our off-Broadway engagement at the Soho Playhouse. Our run has since been extended through the rest of the year. In addition to performing weekly at Soho, The Improvised Play has appeared at numerous indie venues in New York City and in comedy festivals from as near as Rochester, NY to as far as Jaco, Costa Rica. We love to share what we do! We have taught improv workshops at various institutes in the New York area including Fordham University, and abroad in Costa Rica.

Specialties

Hilarious, fully-improvised plays performed in the style of famous playwrights such as Tennessee Williams, David Mamet, and Sam Shepard!

Saw this innovative troupe at the Soho Playhouse and laughed until tears ran down my cheeks! Well done, SMART comedy. I will see these people again!
