August Aichhorn Center For Adolescent Residential Care
The August Aichhorn Center for Adolescent Residential Care, established in 1977 as a not-for-profit organization in New York, focused on addressing the unique challenges of providing long-term care for teenagers who could not be placed in traditional facilities. The Center operated two residential treatment facilities until their closure in 2020, dedicating its efforts to studying and improving residential treatment programs for seriously deprived and impaired adolescents.
Through extensive research and evaluation, the Aichhorn Center aimed to understand the effectiveness of its programs, highlighting significant findings such as the reduction in criminal convictions among RTF alumni compared to those not admitted. As it transitions away from direct service, the Center remains committed to advancing knowledge in the field of residential treatment to better meet the needs of vulnerable youth.
