Stephen Merola, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. He is the Chief of Surgery and Surgeon in Chief at NewYork Presbyterian Queens. He also serves as the hospitals Surgical Quality Office and as the Chief of General, Minimally Invasive, and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Merola is board-certified in General Surgery and holds a Focused Practice Designation in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery from the American Board of Surgery. He is also a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He specializes in the surgical treatment of obesity, hiatal and abdominal wall hernias, gallbladder disease, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. He received his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in general Surgery at NYU Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital and then a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center.
