New York State Police, established in 1917, is a full-service law enforcement agency that maintains various specialized units, such as aviation, bomb disposal, K-9, marine, bicycle and snowmobile patrol, mobile response, motorcycle and scuba. The state police operates a bureau of criminal investigation that undertakes cases related to felony, narcotics, violent and serial crimes, child abuse, sexual exploitation, Internet- and technology-related crime, auto theft, consumer product tampering and organized crime. Headquartered in Albany, N.Y., the New York State Police is accredited by the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council. It maintains a station location in Homer, N.Y.
