The Special and Superior Officers Benevolent Association (S.S.O.B.A.) is a labor union founded in 1972 by James J. Pizzulli, dedicated to providing representation and support to workers who previously had no representation, with a focus on bringing dignity and respect to the everyday working man and woman.
With a strong history of advocating for the rights of various law enforcement and security personnel, S.S.O.B.A. has successfully fought for the recognition of Peace Officer status for New York City Hospital Police and Bridge and Tunnel Officers, as well as the transition of Security Officers in BID Districts to Public Safety Officers. Committed to advancing the interests of its members and the community, S.S.O.B.A. is currently leading campaigns for improved training and protection for Uniformed Officers, particularly in handling psychiatric patients, and seeking to make assaults on officers in the line of duty a felony offense.
