South Blooming Grove Fire Department
The South Blooming Grove Fire District Independence Fire Company, established in 1975, serves a 17 square mile area encompassing 2,000 homes and businesses in Monroe, NY. Originally covered by the Washingtonville and Monroe Fire Districts, the formation of this fire department was initiated by community residents seeking faster emergency response times.
Over the past 40 years, the fire department has expanded its fleet to include two engines, one ladder truck, one rescue vehicle, one brush truck, and three Chiefs vehicles, reflecting significant growth from its humble beginnings. The first apparatus, a 1950 Mac pumper and a 1955 truck, were both acquired with limited funds and required extensive work, showcasing the dedication of the early members.
