Sniffen Court

Sniffen Court Historic District, located on East 36th Street in Manhattan, is a unique collection of ten brick carriage houses built in the 1850s in the Romanesque Revival style by local builder John Sniffen. Now a New York City Landmark, these structures were originally used as stables before being converted into townhouses in the 1920s.

The district features a charming alley adorned with plaques of Greek horsemen by sculptress Malvina Hoffman, who resided in Sniffen Court for over forty years. Historically, it was also home to The Sniffen Court Dramatic Society, an amateur theater group that performed in the court's theater.
