History
Throughout the past 7+ years, I've worked with more than 100 students. ~30 1-on-1, ~12 SHSAT. More than 80% of my SHSAT students have gone onto a Specialized HS. I took on my first student in Spring 2013 when I was a Sophmore in HS. Later that summer I started working at a local prep center. Over the next 3 years I worked at 4 different prep centers while also tutoring 1-on-1 on the side. In 2016, I quit my last job at a prep center and started to exclusively work with students 1-on-1. I posted some ads on Craiglist, took on a few students, and got all of them into a specialized HS. Since 2018, I haven't had to post a single ad thanks to word-of-mouth references.
Specialties
I specialize in 1-on-1 tutoring for standardized exams such as the SATs, the SHSAT, and NYS Regent. Regardless of the exam, or the student, I always use the same prep strategy. I start off with a quick intro to the topics on their exams. I then develop their problem-solving skills with harder-than-average problems. As we get closer to their exam date, I have them work on their time management with exam level questions and practice tests. The goal is to make their real exam feel like just another practice test.
