Senior Services of Albany Foundation

Established in 1967, Cohoes Multi-Service Senior Citizen Center Inc. was formerly known as The Senior Center. The center specializes in providing meals, activities and various other services for the senior residents. Located in Cohoes, N.Y., it offers membership to citizens over the age of 60, whereas people between 50 and 60 participate in center activities that do not have state or federal age requirements. Services provided include transportation, caregiver support, hearing/blood pressure clinics and assistance with social services, including legal aid, Medicaid and food stamps. The center conducts various activities, such as bingo, Tai Chi, swimming, exercise classes, bowling, ceramics and bridge.

Center For Disability Services, established in 1942, is one of the largest providers of community-based residential and health care services to patients with physical disabilities throughout the Northeastern New York. It offers various services that include hearing and vision screenings; clinical and family support; medical and dental care; nutrition and diet planning; and transportation. The medical services offered by the center include dentistry, neurology, pediatric consultancy, podiatry, psychiatry, and urology and pulmonary services. It provides vocational evaluation and training, and organizes workshops and prepares individuals for jobs in competitive employment. The organization provides personalized health education plans and assists in home and vehicle modification; scheduling of respite and recreational opportunities; and community integration and residential placement. Founded in 1981, the Colonie Senior Service Centers, also known as CSSC, is one of the leading independent, community-based nonprofit corporations that provides support service for senior citizens in Colonie, N.Y. The organization provides transportation services for medical appointments, pharmacy visits, shopping, social activities and various errands. It provides preventive programs that include services to cope with osteoporosis, arthritis, hypertension and age-related challenges. The Colonie Senior Service Centers additionally offers various arthritis exercise classes and wellness programs. The organization develops, owns, and operates more than 300 independent living apartment homes that provide independent living options for senior citizens. It also offers meal services.
