Roosevelt Community Farmers Market

History

Part of the uniqueness of our farmers' market model is that it is student-run. Young students from the community are selected for a competitive internship that provides simultaneous educational and business training; providing hands on experience in running the market, customer service, process of ordering/pricing food, cash accounting and nutritional advantages of eating healthy food, from the Farm to their tables. Funding to pay the students comes from Nassau County CDBG funds and donations from community supporters.

Featured in the New York Times, our farmers market not only fills a void in providing fresh fruit and vegetables to the community but also provides local High School students a hands-on educational entrepreneurial experience. The Market offers items for sale at affordable prices to the community and accepts Cash, Bank Cards, EBT/ SNAP and all Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks.
