Dr. Nir Uriel, an internationally recognized leader in heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation, has been named Director of Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian. Dr. Uriel will oversee heart failure programs at NewYork-Presbyterian’s campuses in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and Westchester, with a goal to increase accessibility of care for those with advanced heart failure throughout the New York area. Dr. Uriel was born and raised in Israel, where he attended medical school. After serving for four years as a physician in the Israeli Defense Forces, he then completed his cardiology residency and fellowship. In 2008, he moved to New York to pursue fellowships at NewYork- Presbyterian/Columbia in cardiology, heart failure, transplant, and mechanical circulatory support and remained here as a faculty member until 2014. He then served as the Louis Block Professor of Medicine and Director of Heart Failure, Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support at the University of Chicago Medicine, where, in 2018, he and his Chicago team made history performing two tripleorgan transplants within 27 hours. A dedicated researcher with more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Uriel has improved treatment protocols for patients with end-stage heart failure and has extended criteria for the use of ventricular assist devices and eligibility for transplant for high-risk patients, including those who are HIV positive. His research continues with a focus on interactions of medical devices, such as VADS, with the human body.

Dr. Sean Kalloo is an Associate Professor of Medicine (in Radiology) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) and a leading expert in interventional nephrology and home dialysis. He earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and subsequently went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital. He then pursued fellowship training in nephrology at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, followed by an additional year of specialized training in hemodialysis vascular access procedures.Dr. Kalloo is the only interventional nephrologist at CUIMC and serves as the Director of Interventional Nephrology. His expertise extends to outpatient dialysis, where he previously directed home dialysis modalities and now serves as the Director of Outpatient Dialysis Operations. Additionally, he is the Medical Director of the Program for Prevention and Education in Advanced Kidney Disease (PEAK), which focuses on patient education and care coordination for individuals with chronic kidney disease, guiding them toward kidney transplantation.In his role as the Medical Director of the Rogosin Institute at Methodist Home dialysis facility, Dr. Kalloo continues to provide exceptional care to patients with end-stage kidney disease. He remains actively engaged in performing endovascular procedures and collaborates closely with interventional radiology fellows, providing hands-on training in advanced vascular access techniques.A sought-after speaker and educator, Dr. Kalloo has delivered over 100 lectures nationwide on home dialysis and endovascular interventions for patients with kidney disease. His contributions to the field reflect his dedication to improving patient outcomes and advancing interventional nephrology through education, innovation, and compassionate care.

Dr. Khanh Trinh is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at Columbia College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Trinh completed her DMD degree from Midwestern College of Dental Medicine-Arizona and was accepted into the honorary fraternity of Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Trinh then entered specialty training at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital to receive her Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology certificate. She is a member of Columbia University's oral diagnostics biopsy service and is a clinical provider of oral medicine and oral pathology service at ColumbiaDoctors Midtown. Dr. Trinh’s clinical expertise and research interests include diagnosis and management of oral mucosal diseases, oral pre-cancer/cancer, and salivary gland disorders. Dr. Trinh teaches Oral Pathology courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and has published in peer-reviewed dental and medical journals.
