Founded in 1963, Brooklyn Child and Family Services, formerly known as Project Teen Aid Family Services, is a nonprofit, community-based organization. It provides educational, social and support services to underserved families. The organization serves people in Bedford Stuyvesant, Fort-Greene, Flatbush, Bushwick, Brooklyn Heights, Williamsburg and Brooklyn neighborhoods in New York. Its Head Start Program is funded by the Department of Health & Human Services Administration for Children and Families. Brooklyn Child and Family Services administers programs related to youth development, adult literacy, homelessness prevention, domestic violence and job training. Its youth development program includes after-school services, such as academic development, community service learning and computer literacy for children between the ages of 9 and 12. The organization offers crisis intervention, short-term counseling, case management, housing assistance, job placement and prenatal care services. It works in partnership with Homeless Services United, Excellence Baby Academy, Literacy, Brooklyn Adult Learning Center, and St. John's Family Center. Brooklyn Child and Family Services employs a workforce of more than 100 full- and part-time staff.
