Project Pericles

Project Pericles is a dynamic consortium of colleges and universities in New York, NY that is dedicated to promoting civic engagement within higher education. With a focus on faculty and course development, curricular coherence, and research into best practices, Project Pericles empowers college students to tackle society's pressing challenges, such as climate change, economic justice, education access, immigration, mass incarceration, public health, race and inequality, and voter engagement. Supported by various foundations and coalitions, Project Pericles is at the forefront of fostering the civic engagement and social responsibility of future generations of citizens.

Jan Liss, the Executive Director of Project Pericles, has announced her retirement effective Spring 2024 after leading the organization for nearly two decades. As part of their initiatives, Project Pericles offers $1,000 grants to faculty and staff through their Civic and Voter Engagement Fellowship, supported by the Mellon Foundation. Additionally, their Periclean Programs, such as Curricula for Social Change and the Periclean Faculty Leadership Program, aim to empower college faculty, students, and communities for voter engagement by integrating voter education and social justice issues into humanities curricula, teaching innovative courses across various disciplines, and promoting civic engagement and effective advocacy skills among students.
