Dr. Blau earned his medical degree from the Stony Brook University School of Medicine and subsequently completed pediatric residency at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He went on to complete his fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, where he served as Chief Fellow. Upon completing fellowship in 2011, Dr. Blau joined the Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) Division of Neonatology. He quickly distinguished himself as a leader, serving first as Director of Neonatal Quality Improvement and Associate Director of Neonatology, before ultimately becoming Director of Neonatology in 2016. Dr. Blau's leadership has been instrumental in the growth and transformation of the SIUH NICU. Among his notable achievements are the establishment of one of the first donor human milk programs for premature newborns in the New York area, the formalization of multi-disciplinary, family-centered rounds in the NICU, and the expansion of neonatology services to include twelve talented neonatal advanced care providers. He also authored two impactful antibiotic stewardship protocols that have since been adopted by all NICUs throughout Northwell Health's Neonatology service line. A dedicated academician, Dr. Blau has published 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His commitment to academic medicine is further evidenced by his leadership as President of the New York Perinatal Society from 2019-2023. In recognition of his research accomplishments, Dr. Blau was inducted into the prestigious Society for Pediatric Research in 2021.
