Community Resources Staten Island (CRSI) was established in 1953 by a group of concerned parents and has since become one of the area's most experienced voluntary service providers. Their mission is to provide individuals of all ages and abilities with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as mental health diagnoses, the opportunities and experiences needed to achieve independence and lead rewarding lives as contributing members of the community. Woodward Mental Health Center is a privately held nonprofit orgnaization based in Freeport, N.Y. It serves emotionally disabled children of ages five through 21. Children receive mental health program services with parent and guardian involvement, integrated with special education, behavior management and social skills training. Its wide variety of services includes psychiatric evaluation, psychological evaluation, individual and group psychotherapy and parent group counseling. It also offers special education for all elementary and secondary grades, rehabilitation counseling and prescription and monitoring of psychotropic medication.
