Patricia Vuguin, MD, MSc, is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Pediatric Endocrine Fellowship Program at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC). She is also Medical Director of the Pediatric Thyroid Center at CUMC and NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. Her expertise includes thyroid disease, metabolic syndrome, glucose metabolism, growth, puberty and disorders of puberty, and fetal programming of adult disease. Dr. Vuguin is an accomplished clinician, researcher, and educator. She is fluent in Spanish and English and empathetic to the medical needs of New York’s Hispanic community. In her leadership role for the Pediatric Thyroid Center, she collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of specialists to care for children and adolescents with thyroid disorders, such as thyroid nodules and papillary thyroid cancer. In addition, Dr. Vuguin was the recipient of K08 and R21 awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), independent grants from pharmaceutical companies, and funding from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in research journals; presented her research findings at national and international meetings; and is an active member of the Pediatric Endocrine Society and the Society of Pediatric Research. Dr. Vuguin also completed a Master of Science Training Program in Clinical Research, an NIH-funded program offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Prior to Columbia, Dr. Vuguin provided clinical care at Jacobi Medical Center, Montefiore Medical Center, and North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System (now Northwell Health). She is a member of the SuperDoctors ® list and received an Outstanding Teacher Award from North Shore-LIJ Health System. The American Medical Association’s Board of Trustees also selected her to serve on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Review Committee for Pediatrics.

June Wu, is a pediatric plastic surgeon/craniofacial surgeon. She is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at CUIMC Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. She has a particular interest in Vascular Anomalies, which are congenital abnormalities of the blood and lymphatic systems that affect patients, and most of these conditions currently have no cure. Dr. Wu is a Co-Director of the NYP/Columbia University Irving Medical Center Interdisciplinary Vascular Anomalies Group and is the Co-Director of the Vascular Anomalies Basic and Translational Research Program that concentrates on understanding the pathophysiology of these lesions in order for biologically targeted therapeutics to be developed. Dr. Wu completed her undergraduate studies in chemistry at Princeton University, and graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her residency in Plastic Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center, after which she completed a Craniofacial Fellowship, followed by a Vascular Anomalies Fellowship, at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Wu is a member of multiple professional societies including the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, Plastic Surgery Research Council, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies, and others. Dr. Wu is on the Scientific Committee of both the Plastic Surgery Research Council and the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies. Dr. Wu is a member of the In-service committee for the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation. This committee is responsible for writing examination questions for the In-service examination that every plastic surgery resident in this country is required to take every year during training in order to assess their competency.

Fangming Lin, MD, PHD

Dr. Fangming Lin joined CUMC in June 2011 as the Division Director of Pediatric Nephrology after 10 years of serving University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. She received her MD degree from Fujian Medical University in China and her PhD degree in Pharmacology at New York Medical College. Dr. Lin underwent pediatric residency training at New York University Medical Center and pediatric nephrology fellowship training at Seattle Children’s Hospital of the University of Washington. As a physician scientist, Dr. Lin has a strong interest in both patient care and science and discovery. She is passionate and experienced in treating children with congenital kidney conditions as well as acquired kidney diseases. Her laboratory research focuses on the understanding and better treatment for acute and chronic kidney disease. She is the first recipient of the Norman Siegel Pediatric Research Grant Award jointly issued by the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) and the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology (ASPN) in 2006 - a humbling selection of which she is proud. Dr. Richard A. Polin is the William T. Speck Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in the City of New York and was Director of the Division of Neonatology at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian from 1998-2019. After earning BA and MD degrees from Temple University, Dr. Polin completed a pediatric internship and residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and a pediatric residency and neonatology fellowship at Babies’ Hospital in NY. He was Pediatric Chief Resident there, from 1974-75 and Rustin McIntosh Fellow in Pediatrics from 1975-77. An Associate Pediatrician at Children’s Hospital from 1975-1977, he was named Outstanding Pediatric Attending for 1976-1977. He won similar honors for 1978-79 and 1982-83 at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he held the positions of Director of the Housestaff Training Program, Assistant and Associate Physician-in-Chief, Academic Coordinator of Pediatrics, and Acting Director, Neonatology. Temple University Medical School named Dr. Polin its outstanding alumnus in 1995. In 1998, Dr. Polin returned to NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital as the Director of Neonatology and Vice Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics. In 2005 he received the Physician of the Year Award both from Columbia University Medical Center and the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital Division of Nursing. In the spring of 2006 Dr. Polin received the National Neonatal Education Award from the AAP’s Section on Perinatal Pediatrics. Dr. Polin has published over 200 original papers, 20 books (including Fetal and Neonatal Physiology, Workbook in Practical Neonatology, Pediatric Secrets, Fetal and Neonatal Secrets, Current Pediatric Therapy, Pocket Neonatology) and more than 200 abstracts. He is the past chair of the Sub-board of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Dr. Polin is the current Chair of the NICHD Neonatal Research Network executive steering committee.
