Oko Farms is an urban farming initiative located in Brooklyn, NY, dedicated to promoting aquaponics as an ecological farming method that addresses climate change and enhances food security for urban residents. Through awareness and education, they aim to demystify aquaponics and its benefits. They cultivate a diverse range of vegetables, herbs, fruits, medicinal plants, and flowers, showcasing the potential of aquaponics systems. Their farming practices are rooted in Traditional Ecological Knowledge, utilizing low-tech, adaptable techniques and symbiotic relationships between fish and plants. They prioritize sustainable pest management and collaborate with Cornell Cooperative Extension for expert support.

With a focus on environmental stewardship, Oko Farms utilizes fish waste as fertilizer, feeding their fish a varied diet that includes greens grown on the farm, black soldier fly larvae, and fish pellets. Their fish species include mirror carp, catfish, goldfish, koi, bluegill, crawfish, and freshwater prawns. By integrating aquaponics into urban farming, Oko Farms contributes to a more sustainable and resilient food system.
