The New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services is dedicated to improving the quality of mandated representation throughout the state of New York. Operating under the policies established by the Board, the office assists county governments and indigent legal services providers in providing effective assistance of counsel to individuals who are legally entitled to counsel but cannot afford to hire an attorney.
With a focus on appellate post-conviction, criminal defense, eligibility for representation, grants and distributions, the Hurrell-Harring settlement, parental representation, research and data analysis, and statewide implementation, the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services strives to ensure that all individuals have access to quality legal representation, regardless of their financial circumstances.
