The Michigan Street Baptist Church, established in 1836, is a significant historical landmark in Buffalo, NY, recognized as the first Black church in the city, built, owned, and continuously worshipped by African Americans. It has been a pivotal site for numerous heroes throughout history, including Freedom Seekers on the underground railroad and activists of the civil rights movement.
Currently managed by the Buffalo Niagara Freedom Station Coalition, the church is undergoing preservation efforts to secure its legacy for future generations. Contributions are welcomed to support structural repairs and ensure that this vital piece of American history endures for another 174 years.
