Mark A. Apfelbaum, MD

Dr. Alyssa Bautista is an Assistant Professor of Neurology who serves as an Attending Neurohospitalist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. As the current Director for the Hospitalist Neurology Program, she oversees the neurology inpatient and consultative services across CUIMC (New YorkPresbyterian-Milstein Hospital), NewYork Presbyterian-Westchester Hospital, and NewYork Presbyterian-Allen Hospital. As a clinician, she specializes in the inpatient care of acute neurological disorders and emergencies, with a subspecialty in the field of stroke and vascular neurology. During her training and years as an attending, Dr. Bautista has received recognition for her dedication to education, humanism, and excellence in patient care, including the prestigious Lewis P. Rowland Teaching Award (2021) from the Columbia Neurology Residency Program, and Outstanding Teacher of the Year (2021) from Columbia Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Bautista earned her M.D. from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. She completed a residency in Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine - Jackson Memorial Hospital after a year of internship in Internal Medicine at the New York Medical College - Metropolitan Hospital Center. She further pursued a fellowship in Vascular Neurology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Bautista is double board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, in both Neurology, and Vascular Neurology. She is a member of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, World Stroke Organization, and the American Academy of Neurology.

Luona Sun, MD is a board-certified breast surgeon trained in minimal invasive nipple sparing mastectomy, skin sparing mastectomy, intraoperative radiation therapy and various frontline localization skills. She is also an active researcher, focusing on rare diagnoses like small cell carcinoma in breast cancer and high risk lesion management in patients with coexisting cancer. One of her major research interests is in Asian American breast cancer disparities. Dr. Sun received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Stony Brook University, her medical degree from SUNY Buffalo, and completed her general surgery residency at New York Presbyterian Queens/Weill Cornell Medical Center before coming to Columbia for her fellowship training. Over the course of that time, she earned several honors for her research work, including winning the Theresa and Eugene Lang Research Award and presenting her international collaboration with China’s 301 General Hospital at the American Society of Breast Surgeons 2019. Dr. Sun can conduct surgical consultations in Chinese as well as English.

Michelle Boyar, MD, is board certified in medical oncology and an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Boyar has a clinical interest in palliative care practices in oncology, gastrointestinal cancers, genitourinary cancers, as well as general oncology. She treats patients with oncologic conditions, such as bladder, prostate, bowel, colon-rectal, esophageal, gallbladder, bile duct, gastric, kidney, and pancreatic cancers. Dr. Boyar strives to form close relationships with her patients and serves her community by offering comprehensive care and connecting them to local resources. Dr. Boyar completed her medical degree at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and remained at the university to serve her internship and residency at Southwestern Medical Center. She then completed her fellowship in hematology and oncology at Columbia University Medical Center.
