Brooklyn, NY 11201

The Long Beach Bridge, opened in 1955, serves as a vital connection between the city of Long Beach on a barrier island and the community of Island Park in New York. Designed as a steel-deck bascule drawbridge, it features two parallel spans that accommodate three lanes of traffic in each direction, significantly improving traffic flow compared to its predecessor.

The bridge has undergone several structural enhancements, including a major rehabilitation project completed in 2004, which upgraded its systems and ensured its continued safety and usability. With a total length of 820 feet and a clearance of 29 feet above mean high water, the Long Beach Bridge effectively supports the growing transportation needs of the region while offering pedestrian and cyclist access.

I've been over it by car, I've been under it by ferry. What you see is what you get. It's purely functional without much in the way of aesthetic.

When cars drive over the metal grates it makes a mournful sound, almost like whale songs, that echo out into the green-gray expanse. Recommended for overcast days.
