History

Keycafe was started in 2012 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Co-founder Clayton Brown, an active Airbnb host at the time, came up with the idea after having several issues getting keys to his guests. After realizing there was no companies offering solutions he decided it was time to create one for himself. We started out with a manual solution, having location staff handle keys and put them in a lockbox under the counter. We evolved to create a fully automated smartbox solution to simplify the process and have a better solution. Keycafe now operates in over 45 major cities with over 1000 locations. Keycafe has handled over 1 million key exchanges making lives easier one access at a time.

Specialties

Keycafe is a fully automated self-serve key management solution. Keycafe operates a distributed network of public key sharing smartboxes to allow access to your home with an app. Keycafe uses patented technology to allow urbanites around the world to manage access to the on demand economy. You can now remotely let in dog walkers, packages, cleaners and guests.

Does not work. If you're storing a key it is normally important. If their fobs don't work then what is the point. Have been suggesting this service to other airBNB hosts but should've listened...
