CheckMate Management was founded in 1997 by James Whitten, Attorney at Law. While working as the head of the legal department for a large payroll firm, Jim observed the impersonal disconnect between the client and the payroll firm and decided that there was the need for a smaller, local, and more personal approach to business. Generally speaking, small business owners are very knowledgeable about their own businesses, but relatively weak in the areas of compliance with state and federal laws, takes, etc. With this in mind, CheckMate Management was initiated.
