One of the highlights of Dr. Spitzer s time at Atlanta Scottish Rite was participating in a medical mission trip to El Salvador in order to operate on underserved local patients with advanced spine and extremity deformities, utilizing a team-based approach with local orthopaedic surgeons.Dr. Spitzer treats all pediatric orthopaedic conditions, including but not limited to spine, sports, limb length discrepancy and deformity, hip disorders, tumor, foot and ankle, trauma and neuromuscular conditions such as cerebral palsy. Dr. Spitzer s research focuses on orthopaedic resident education, trauma, and scoliosis surgery, and she has written a chapter about multi-specialty clinics for orthopaedic patients with soft tissue and bone sarcomas. She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), and the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS), which focuses on supporting and mentoring women in orthopaedics. She was selected to serve on national committees for both POSNA and RJOS.In college at Yale University, Dr. Spitzer was named an Academic All-American from 2004-2007 while playing on the Varsity Field Hockey team. She majored in Behavioral Neuroscience while completing her pre-medical studies and serving an elected position on the Yale Senior Class Council. In medical school at the George Washington University School of Medicine, she provided medical care to patients living in rural parts of Haiti as part of a medical mission with Project Medishare.
