John E. Nolan, III, MD, is an orthopaedic hand and upper extremity surgeon with additional training in musculoskeletal oncology and microsurgery. He specializes in the operative and non-operative care of the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow. He also treats bone and soft tissue tumors of the upper extremity with limb salvage and reconstructive procedures as well as peripheral nerve issues throughout the body.Dr. Nolan received a B.A. in Biophysical Chemistry from Dartmouth College and graduated Summa Cum Laude and first in his class from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2015. He completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Vermont Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. Following residency, Dr. Nolan completed fellowships in Musculoskeletal Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY. After his fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, he pursued additional subspecialty training in reconstructive microsurgery at Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore, India.With unique training in upper extremity surgery, microsurgery and musculoskeletal oncology, Dr. Nolan s interests range from treating commonly encountered conditions affecting the hand, wrist and elbow to upper extremity trauma and tumor surgery.Dr. Nolan is also devoted to the practice of academic medicine, having authored peer-reviewed papers, review articles and book chapters throughout his training. Currently, his research interests focus on improving patient outcomes after both upper extremity and tumor surgery. Apart from this, he is devoted to mentoring and educating residents and students at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/ Northwell, where he has an appointment as an Assistant Professor.

He is an active candidate member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), serving as a reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty and as a member of the Fellows Orthopaedic Continued AAHKS Learning (FOCAL) committee. As a native of Long Island, Luke is excited to return home to help patients with their hip and knee needs. He practices individualized care with a focus on shared decision making with his patients. He enjoys spending time with his family, travel, watching sports, as well as cooking.
