Jodi P. Lerner, MD

Dr. Salvatore Caruana is the Director of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center. He is a widely respected head and neck surgeon in the forefront of the surgical treatment of tumors of the mouth pharynx, larynx and sinuses, parathyroid surgery, thyroid gland, and salivary glands. He is a pioneer in laser microsurgery for pharyngeal and laryngeal cancers. Dr. Caruana is an Associate Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Caruana graduated cum laude from the University of Buffalo and completed his Doctor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. His general surgery training at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center was followed by a residency in Otolaryngology at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He then completed an NIH funded two-and-a-half-year fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Caruana's peer-reviewed research has included work centering upon the biological nature of several head and neck cancers and on the role of viruses in malignancies of the paranasal sinuses.

Dr. Krigel is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where she majored in Biological Sciences and minored in Spanish. She received her MD from New York University School of Medicine in 2013, then completed her internship, residency, and chief residency in internal medicine at Columbia. She stayed on for fellowship in Digestive and Liver Diseases, during which time she published multiple papers on topics related to colon cancer screening, early onset colorectal cancer, and colonoscopy quality. She also earned a Masters in Patient Oriented Research from the Department of Biostatistics at the Mailman School of Public Health. Dr. Krigel joined the faculty of the Division of Digestive and Liver Disease at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2020. She continues to be involved in trainee education as the Associate Program Director of the DLD Fellowship Program, and she participates in cross-campus colonoscopy quality initiatives as the Associate Director of Colonoscopy Quality for the division. Dr. Krigel is fluent in Spanish.

Lusha Liang, MD, MS is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University and Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Liang received her medical degree with honors from Weill Cornell Medical College. She completed her internship and internal medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her fellowship in cardiovascular medicine and underwent additional training in advanced echocardiography at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. During this time, she also obtained her masters degree in Patient Oriented Research from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Her research focuses on improving outcomes in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Dr. Liang sees patients in the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center, where she specializes in the diagnosis and management of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center utilizes all the resources at the medical center to provide comprehensive care including advanced cardiac imaging, invasive septal reduction therapies (septal myectomy or alcohol septal ablation) when indicated, and cardiogenetics. In her clinic, Dr. Liang also sees patients with general cardiovascular disease including hypertension, high cholesterol, valvular and coronary heart disease, and heart rhythm disorders. Dr. Liang is also an Attending physician at Columbia University Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Ultrasound laboratory where she performs and interprets stress echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, and transthoracic echocardiograms. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Echocardiography. In her practice, she strives to provide cutting edge cardiovascular care that is compassionate and patient-centered.
