In operation for more than 80 years, United Way of Greater Rochester is nonprofit organization that specializes in providing health and human services. The organization raises and allocates funds to support the programs of several social service agencies. It specializes in educational, health care and medical assistance services. It intervenes in the cases of child abuse and street violence. United Way of Greater Rochester provides meals, housekeeping services, and nursing and personal care to senior citizens. Established in 1971, Center For Youth provides counseling, street outreach programs, emergency shelter, transitional living programs, prevention education, and student support centers. The center offers free, voluntary and confidential services to youth aged 12 to 21, 24-hours a day. Center For Youth Services also offers a Student Support Center at East High School that provides various services, including job searches, housing and independent living, classroom presentations, community service, parenting groups, anger management programs, and truancy intervention. It also offers pregnancy prevention education, relationship counseling, chemical dependency prevention education, word processing and computer skills, and counseling on health issues, abuse, family concerns, and sexuality issues.
