History

Founded in 2001 in partnership with the Center for International Humanitarian Cooperation (CIHC), the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) is a university-wide center that reports directly to the President of Fordham University. By incorporating the academic rigor and intellectual standard of Fordham University with the experience and expertise of aid and development agencies in the field, we endeavor to advance the methods and framework by which humanitarian workers operate. As such, we serve as a unique bridge between academia and humanitarian efforts worldwide.

Specialties

The IIHA offers a variety of humanitarian training courses that prepare current and future aid workers with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively in times of humanitarian crisis and disaster. Hosted in rotating locations around the world, our training courses have been uniquely designed to cater to an aid worker's busy schedule. Affiliated with Fordham University in New York City, the IIHA courses are borne of an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines academic theory with the practical experience of seasoned humanitarian professionals. In addition to graduate and non-credit course offerings, the IIHA offers undergraduate courses through Fordham University and publishes on a wide-range of humanitarian topics through the International Humanitarian Affairs (IHA) book series.
