Conveniently located inside the Southside Mall near TJ Maxx and Southside Cinema, Harmony Martial Arts & Fitness is the home of Oneonta Genbu-Kai Dojo, which is a family-friendly martial arts dojo that offers traditional Demura-Ha Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Genbu-Kai Karate, Okinawan weapons of self defense, Toyama-Ryu / Suishin-Itto-Ryu Batto-Do (Japanese sword), and self defense classes featuring certified Genbu-Kai black belts. We offer karate classes for ages 7 and up. Under the guidance of Shihan Fumio Demura, Oneonta Genbu-Kai Dojo at Harmony Martial Arts & Fitness puts emphasis on its students being good people both inside and outside of the dojo through its 5 principles (dojo kun): 1. Be courteous in your manners. 2. Have a strong sense of justice. 3. Be responsible for your words and actions. 4. Respect one another. 5. Karate-Do is the way of the spirit to give you courage and ambition to reach your goals as part of your life. Standardized belt (rank) testing is offered on a quarterly basis to those students who have fulfilled class attendance requirements and are able to demonstrate knowledge of the required basics, kats (forms), and sparring techniques that are necessary for the rank that is being tested.
