Dr. Hans Burkholder offers specialized surgical care for people who have colorectal symptoms or diagnoses. Consultations are provided at two Brooklyn locations by Dr. Hans Burkholder, a board certified colon and rectal surgeon with specialty expertise and training in the diagnosis and surgical management of diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus. Dr. Burkholder strives to provides excellent care to each person in a compassionate and professional manner. He is a board certified colon and rectal surgeon, also known as a proctologist, who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant diseases involving the colon, rectum, and anus. This field of medicine was formerly known as proctology. He is proficient in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical techniques. Dr. Burkholder is on staff at New York Presybyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital since June 2020. He was on staff at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn from 2017-2020. Prior to opening a private practice in Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Burkholder worked for four years at Alaska Colorectal Surgery in Anchorage, Alaska. He was one of three colorectal surgeons providing specialized care in the state of Alaska. During this time he also served as General Surgery Sub-Section Chair at Providence Hospital and Trauma Director at Alaska Regional Hospital. Dr. Burkholder received his B.A. with Honors in 1999 from the University of Manitoba. He received his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine in 2003. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga in 2009. He then completed a colorectal surgery fellowship in 2010 at the University of Texas, Houston. He is board certified in General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery.
