History
In 2001, Random House Childrens Books welcomed the rich history of Golden Books into its portfolio with such classics as pat the bunny, The Poky Little Puppy, and the books of Richard Scarry. Golden Books revolutionized childrens publishing in 1942 by producing high-quality picture books at affordable prices. Little Golden Books were offered at just 25 cents and were sold not only in bookstores, but also in drugstores and grocery chains, making good books available for the first time to almost all children, not just a privileged few. Sixty-five years later, many of the titles upon which Golden Books was founded, including The Poky Little Puppy, I Can Fly, and Home for a Bunny, are still hugely popular.
