A detailed history and physical exam, including a discussion of the relationships of symptoms to various activities and, unfortunately, the reproduction of the pain, is the most powerful diagnostic tool. Many individuals with no symptoms may have abnormal laboratory results and, similarly, many symptomatic patients may have normal results. Therefore test results must always be viewed in proper perspective.
