Galerie St. Etienne, founded in 1939 by Otto Kallir, was a prominent American venue for showcasing Austrian and German Expressionism, as well as self-taught artists from both America and Europe. Notably, the gallery was the exclusive representative of Anna Mary Robertson, known as Grandma Moses, since her first solo exhibition in 1940.
Although it closed its exhibition space in 2020, the gallery continues its legacy through the Kallir Research Institute, a nonprofit established in 2017, while still representing contemporary artist Sue Coe and maintaining a limited inventory of works by several notable artists, including Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele.
