The Franklin Mountain Hawkwatch, established in 1968, is a chapter of the National Audubon Society and is dedicated to protecting the environment and connecting people with nature, specifically for birds and wildlife. They offer various conservation programs, education programs, research initiatives, and advocacy efforts to promote the well-being of birds and their habitats.

With a focus on grassland bird habitat preservation and creation, the Franklin Mountain Hawkwatch aims to increase the numbers of declining bird species through proper development and management of potential nesting areas. They also invite birdwatchers to join their expert leaders for friendly outings at favorite area locations and encourage participation in regional bird surveys and counts to provide valuable data on local populations. Supporting the Franklin Mountain Hawkwatch through membership or business sponsorship helps sustain their year-round programs and activities.

Fantastic!! Discovered this great little park in Oneonta. It is manned daily from end of sept-December by volunteers bird counters. Superb views of the hills - definitely go to see the leaves...
