The New York State Interest on Lawyer Account Fund (IOLA) was established in 1983 with the support of the New York State Bar Association and the legislature to provide financial assistance to civil legal service organizations. IOLA helps low-income individuals in New York State access legal aid for essential needs such as food, shelter, employment, and healthcare.
Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, IOLA appoints an Executive Director to oversee its operations, with Christine M. Fecko recently announced as the incoming Executive Director. Through partnerships with banks and lawyer participation funds, IOLA ensures effective access to justice in New York State by supporting grantees dedicated to providing civil legal aid to those in need.
