Dr. Laifer-Narin graduated from Yeshiva University, Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed a residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC and a fellowship in cross sectional imaging at the University of California San Francisco. Prior to coming to Columbia, she worked at LAC-USC primarily in ultrasound with a focus on Ob/Gyn ultrasound, and then moved to UCLA where she worked in the ultrasound section. At Columbia Dr. Laifer-Narin oversees the ultrasound section, practices abdomen and pelvic CT, and is in charge of a newly emerging field, fetal MRI. She works in both the radiology and Ob/Gyn departments, and is known to both departments as an expert in both fetal and maternal diagnostic imaging. Dr. Laifer-Narin is known as an expert clinician and teacher in Ob/Gyn imaging. She is involved in several research projects including fetal ultrasound/MRI, diagnostic imaging of the pregnant and postpartum patient, placental imaging, and GYN oncological imaging. She has lectured extensively at many academic institutions, is a senior member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, is involved in the International Society for Ultrasound in OB/GYN and has organized courses and presented scientific papers, exhibits, and lectures at several national and international conferences.

She earned a Master of Science degree at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health in Patient-Oriented Research. She pursued further glaucoma subspecialty training at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Prior to her appointment at Columbia University, she served as glaucoma faculty at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Shukla has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and has been invited to speak nationally and internationally on her patient care and research. She serves on the editorial boards of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology Glaucoma. She is continually inspired by her patients and aims to improve their quality of life while treating their glaucoma.
