The State Board of Elections was established in the Executive Department in 1974 as a bipartisan agency. It is responsible for the administration and enforcement of laws relating to elections in New York. The Board also regulates disclosure and limitations of a fair campaign code that governs campaign practices. The State Board of Elections offers assistance to local election boards and investigates complaints of statutory violations. In addition, it preserves citizens confidence in the democratic process and enhances voter participation in elections. The board provides information regarding absentee, military and federal voting and vote registration. The State Board of Elections is located in Albany, N.Y.
