In 1918, Quandt's Foodservice Distributors started as a fish market in Amsterdam, N.Y. Through the years, the fresh fish market developed into a grocery store that served the Amsterdam community from its Guy Park Avenue location. Forty years after its original opening, Quandt s reached for an even larger customer base and went wholesale in 1958. Most of its original customers were local shoppers, bakers and Thruway restaurants. Throughout its more than 40 years as a wholesale distributor, however, the increase in customers has allowed it to expand business and extend into other geographical areas. In 1999, Quandt s added on 30,000 square feet of freezer and cooler space to its facility on Quist Road in order to accommodate its rapidly growing constituency. Quandt s is one of the largest independent food distributors in upstate New York.
