Discovery Center of the Southern Tier

The Discovery Center celebrated 40 years as a premier hands-on children’s museum whose mission is to develop the intellectual, physical, and emotional well-being of the children of the Southern Tier through participatory exhibits and programs. Created for, with and by children, the Museum’s 30+ interactive exhibits spark creativity, foster play-based learning and build self-esteem. A 2-acre Story Garden, with over 20 exhibits, expands our footprint to the outdoor world where the focus is on the imaginative world of books. The Story Garden and our newest feature, The Pirate Ship Playground is considered a public garden and is accessible April through October with no cost of admission. The Discovery Center is also the home of state certified preschool/afterschool programs and Summer Camps featuring play-based engagement, creative exploration, integrated arts and STEAM infused learning opportunities.
