He is actively involved in clinical, translational and basic research in GU malignancies, serving as principle or co-investigator on a variety of clinical research trials that incorporate novel targeted therapies for his patients.Dr. Nanus served as Chief of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine for 14 years prior to becoming the Director of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medicine Healthcare Systems Cancer Program. Dr. Nanus is also the Associate Director of Clinical Services for the Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center. He is the recipient of numerous awards including membership in the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the American Association of Physicians.Dr. Nanus is a graduate of the University of Illinois and the Chicago Medical School at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. After completing clinical training in Medicine at Albert Einstein and Medical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and research training at the Sloan Kettering Institute, he was invited to join the faculty at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1989. Developing a program in GU cancer, he made several important contributions to clinical and basic research in kidney and prostate cancer. He was recruited to the full-time faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College in 1998.Dr. Nanus helped develop the Genitourinary (GU) Oncology Research Program focused on understanding the events that contribute to the progression of urologic cancers, and on developing new and more effective therapies to treat advanced prostate, kidney and bladder cancer. As a Director of the Genitourinary Oncology Research Laboratory, he works with a unique interdepartmental team of world class clinical researchers seeking to translate research on the molecular basis of GU cancers into improved cancer treatment.

Dr. Faruqui grew up in Louisiana and showed early versatility, graduating with both a Bachelor of Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. As a young scholar of both international studies and biological sciences, she returned to New Orleans and garnered an additional Master's of Science in Pharmacology from Tulane University. She then completed an MD from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Dr. Faruqui continued her stepwise mastery through medicine completing her internal medicine residency at Tulane where she graduated with a pathway of distinction in Gastroenterology. She then completed a General Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship and a prestigious additional one-year fellowship in transplant hepatology at New York University (NYU) Grossman School of Medicine in Manhattan. Her dedication and educational achievements are only a few aspects that she provides to the community. She additionally is always willing to spend those extra minutes guiding patients through the complex decision-making that higher-level liver care requires. Dr. Faruqui has an interest in healthcare disparities, increasing access to liver transplants for the underprivileged, and providing equal, world-class care to all patients. He completed his Hematology and Oncology fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and joined the Hematology and Medical Oncology Division after completing his fellowship training in 2023. During fellowship, Dr. Mejia developed his clinical experience under the mentorship of Dr. Ruben Niesvizky, while pursuing his laboratory research at Dr. Mark Bustoros’ Laboratory, being able to complete both clinical and translational research in the plasma cell malignancy field.Dr. Mejia’s research has focused on the genomic drivers of aggressive forms of myeloma, for which he received the 2022 Conquer Cancer – American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Young Investigator Award, a prestigious honor only given to 100 of people each year. Additionally, Dr. Mejia was the recipient ofthe 2022 Charles, Lillian and Betty Neuwirth Foundation Fellowship in Oncology award for his project “Genomic Landscape of Multiple Myeloma with Extramedullary Disease”. Dr. Mejia’s research also investigates the connectionof race, ethnicity and myeloma, how myeloma escapes the surveillance of the immune system, as well as how genetic information can be used to develop novel approaches to treat myeloma.
